DIY Christmas wreath in 15 minutes!
Hello! Can you believe it is Christmas this Saturday?! This year has gone so quickly! It has been a busy year and leads me nicely onto the inspiration for this blog post.
I ended up making a wreath because I totally forgot to buy one and only remembered when I saw photos of them pop up on Instagram!
I looked at buying a wreath online but then decided that I would much prefer going to the shops and choosing one. We are seeing family over the Christmas break so are trying to stay home where possible and avoid going to places with lots of people…so that means no shopping trip.
In the end, I just used what I had in the flat! My first attempt at a wreath only took 10 minutes! It was actually quite fun and easy so I remade it (this time I added baubles). Sharing on the blog in case anyone else needs inspiration for a DIY wreath.
Let’s get started!
What I used:
- An old Bride chair sign (a metal/plastic circle would also work)
- A flower garland from my wedding
- 6 small Christmas baubles
I initially bought the Sainsbury’s Pampas Pick for decorating the TV stand but now think they look better in the wreath! They look so pretty - I love the mix of eucalyptus leaves, pampas and fir fronds. Some parts have a frosted look which was a really nice touch and it was only £2!
I didn’t need to use any glue or adhesive to secure the items to the wreath and you will see why shortly…
Step 1
For the base structure, I used the metal circle that was actually the Bride and Groom chair signs from my sister’s wedding. I thought they were cute and might have some use in the flat so asked if I could keep them. I'm glad they did end up getting used! I used the other one as a decoration for our winter garden. You can see a photo of it on the blog's Instagram account @adventuresofahomebuyer.
As the sign already had some eucalyptus leaves around it, I just wrapped the flower garland around it twice to give it some more shape and volume.
There’s no glue needed as I just tucked the ends of the garlands into the chair sign.
If you are just using a plain circle then I would suggest wrapping a plant garland (similar to the one I have which has quite a few leaves) around it three times.
Step 2
I rearranged the leaves until I was happy with the composition. I just made sure there was a mix of the garland and eucalyptus leaves and the white metal frame wasn’t visible.
Step 3
Next, I inserted the pampas pick into the wreath. Since I only had two, I thought making it look symmetrical would be more pleasing to the eye. After trying a few different positions, I thought they looked nicer in the bottom half of the wreath.
To secure the two bouquets, I just took some leaves and stems (like in the below photo) and tucked them into the wreath.
An alternative to securing them could be using some twist ties - we always seem to have some in the flat from cables! The bridal sign used cable ties to secure the eucalyptus leaves garland to the metal frame.
Step 4
Lastly, I added some Christmas tree baubles on to the wreath!
To attach them to the wreath, I used the gold string usually used to hang the baubles and wrapped them around several leaves so they are secured on the wreath, see photo below.
Initially I had the flowers from the garland on but it didn’t look very festive so I took them off. They can be put back so maybe I’ll turn this into a summer wreath in a few months!
That’s it! For a last minute wreath, I quite like it! I like the different shades of green but would be better if I also had some berries or pine cones to add on.
You don’t need the exact materials, you can have a look around your home and see what else is suitable! Just thought it would give someone inspiration to make their own wreath since it was quite easy and fun!
