5 kitchen storage ideas
It’s taken us a while but slowly we have been trying to make better use of our kitchen storage space! Sharing our experiences on the blog as we’ve found some really useful products.
The shelves in our cupboards are quite high and there are times that I wish we had some extra shelves but we’ve found an alternative.
1) Food storage containers
We’ve been using these plastic IKEA 365+ dry food jars with lids and I love how organised our cupboard is now. I’m also pleased that the 2.3L version is just the right height for our cupboards. It helps us to make the most of the space and they look great!
The larger ones arrived first and they are good quality but when the 1.3L ones arrived, I think one was damaged in the delivery process as it had two cracks in the plastic.
Gone are the days of open packs of flour, lentils and pasta! Just wanted to flag that I don’t think it fits a full 1.5kg of flour though as my pack of flour was already used when I poured it into the jar and it was close to filling up. I will test it out next time!
We also chose this as it was dishwasher safe but it turns out the 2.3L jars are too big for our dishwasher!
2) Spice jars
I bought these cute IKEA RAJTAN spice jars as we sometimes get spices which come in a plastic packet so this is much easier to store rather than tying it up with a hairband. I feel like whenever I buy hairbands, half the pack is used for keeping items sealed in the kitchen. Also, we’ve started using garlic powder and that just gets everywhere when it isn’t stored in a jar!
I thought these were really good value for money at £1.75 for four glass jars and the jars are dishwasher safe (not the lids though)!
3) Under shelf storage baskets
We basically went from having three mugs to over 10 mugs and we ran out of space to store them. To explain the sudden increase in mugs, there was a sale at Le Creuset at Bicester Village and Hubby was very excited to get some more mugs…
I saw under shelf mug hooks on Instagram, like this one, but some need securing to the shelf and for ones that didn’t need securing, I wasn’t sure it would be able to hold the weight of the mugs without bending the metal.
I wanted a product which would be secure without the need for screws to fix it to the shelf and I found these under shelf storage baskets from m zimoon on Amazon. The reviews looked good so thought I’d give them a try!
They are secure without needing to fix them into position with screws which is great! So simple to use and has given us a lot more storage space.
You can also stack the baskets and use them together but we haven’t needed this functionality.
4) Small storage boxes
In the photo above, you can see the IKEA GRUNDVATTNET boxes and I initially thought they might be useful for under the sink but turns out they’re great for storing snacks neatly too! It’s much easier to find things now so I’m glad we bought them.
5) Stackable storage boxes
I saw these storage boxes when we were in Wilko and thought this is what we need for under the sink! I don’t have a picture of what the space looked like under the sink prior to the boxes but all I can say is, these make such a difference and again has created a lot more storage space for us!
I thought they were good value for money and we ended getting one large and two small boxes. The lid is sold separately and we just needed one for the large box. When stacked, they’re just the right size for the cupboard! Our cupboard is looking so much tidier now.
Hope this post has given you some ideas for organising the kitchen!
